Mobile Switching Center AC Power Upgrades

Upgrading an aging mobile switching center in Chantilly, Virginia required comprehensive engineering and construction administration services. Salas O’Brien’s team provided full electrical, HVAC, security and fire protection design solutions to ensure reliable, continuous service into the future. We designed two existing store rooms to serve as a new main distribution equipment room and included provisions for future third and fourth generators (2000kW/2500kW standby) to be installed under a future project. Power diversity was added to the MSC and the transformer upgraded to 4000A capacity with four additional CRAC units implemented for the switch room’s HVAC system for maximum capacity with N+1 redundancy. Fire protection was also added to the main electrical rooms and generator room. These upgrades will empower this switching center to operate efficiently for years to come, reliably serving millions.
