Enhancing patient care through energy-efficient hospital design
KINGSTON, ON, CANADA
New High-Tech Hospital
Salas O’Brien was part of an integrated team that designed the new Providence Care Hospital. This 270-bed institution specializes in longterm mental health, psychiatry programs, physical rehabilitation, palliative care, and complex care. The facility integrates cutting-edge technology throughout, enhancing patient experience and staff productivity.
Our team provided mechanical and plumbing design for the new hospital, consolidating services from Providence Care, St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital, and Mental Health Services.
The hospital emphasized energy efficiency, aiming for no more than 100 kBtu/sf/yr overall energy consumption. We successfully met this aggressive target through exceptional energy efficiency and competitive construction and mechanical costs. Year after year, Providence Care Hospital maintains its status as the most efficient Class B hospital in the province, with greenhouse gas emissions intensity among the lowest in Ontario’s hospital sector.
