Driving efficiency through data center consolidation

Data Center Consolidation
Salas O’Brien collaborated with a government agency in a public-private partnership to consolidate over 500 data centers into an efficient, secure, and scalable solution. We executed the project in four phases, utilizing laser scanning to create a digital twin and total stations to validate location, and constructability. Our collaborative design-build approach immediately integrated all stakeholders’ feedback, reducing schedules and mitigating errors.
The new 5 MW facility, with provisions for future expansion up to 8 MW, achieved Uptime Tier III design documents certification and is on track for LEED Silver certification. By incorporating highly efficient cooling units and free-cooling pumped-refrigerant units with air-side economization, we designed the data center to achieve a 1.32 power usage effectiveness. The result is a state-of-the-art data center that has streamlined the agency’s operations from 500 disparate sites to one highly efficient facility, prepared to meet future demands quickly.
