Athletic District Development

Working closely with the University Planning, Design, and Construction Department and the Athletics Department, Salas O’Brien provided engineering design to replace outdated facilities with new stadia for the University’s Division I soccer, baseball, and softball programs. Upgrades to the stadia and related facilities on the Storrs Campus include baseball (J.O. Christian Field), softball (Burrill Field), soccer (Joseph J. Morrone Stadium), soccer practice field, proposed maintenance building, and the Freitas Ice Forum. We developed infrastructure improvements as part of enabling project known as the Southwest Campus Infrastructure Project.

In addition, our team designed the extension of the campus’s water, high-pressure fire protection, stormwater, sewer, electrical, telecommunications, and natural gas systems to provide new services for the Athletic District Development. We delivered the project in phases coordinated with the sports seasons, conforming to Connecticut High-Performance Building Code regulations and achieving LEED certification.
