Bridging the gap between athletes and non-athletes
Lexington, VA, USA
New Aquatics Center
The $44 million facility contains an indoor 50-meter swimming pool with 800,000 gallons of water. Besides the main pool, the new facility includes an endless pool, a warming pool, a full-scale training and rehab room, and a wet classroom.
Salas O’Brien provided engineering design services, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection services. To accommodate space requirements, a boiler skid package was utilized to serve both domestic hot water and the pool.
The pool is large enough to be divided into three different sections—one for diving, another for water polo, and a third for competitive swimming that can all happen simultaneously.
In addition, the pool can handle all Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) requirements, all the basic swimming requirements, physical education classes, and NCAA sports. This project has earned LEED Gold certification.
