Rutherford GO Station

The Rutherford Go Regional Express Rail Expansion was a $239 million project providing an improved infrastructure for regional transportation. It included the addition of a new 6-story parking structure with an integrated station building, a second-heavy rail track, and enhanced pedestrian access to the platforms. Salas O’Brien provided structural engineering services, such as designing the parking structure, integrating it with an elevated pedestrian bridge, and providing shelter throughout the site.

Interfacing with Toronto and Region Conservation Authority-protected lands, groundwater conditions, and varying geotechnical conditions presented many challenges in this project. To address these issues, we developed unique structures and features like canopies, pedestrian crossing bridges, and even a 180-foot pedestrian bridge built directly into the parking garage.
