Structural integrity for vital city operations facility
Saskatoon, SK, Canada
Civic Operations Centre
The Saskatoon Civic Operations Centre consolidated many crucial city operations and services as part of the city’s first Public Private Partnerships (P3) project. The city moved its transit operations during the first phase and built the first permanent snow removal facility.
Salas O’Brien created the structural plans for the transit building, which has space indoors for 224 buses and can expand its fleet over the next 10 to 15 years. We also provided structural design for the snow management facility, which has a storage capacity of 1 million cubic meters of snow on a 14-acre concrete pad. When the snow melts, the water flows into a meltwater/stormwater pond after passing through an oil and grit separator. The water is then carefully released into the stormwater system after passing through several specially created baffle curtains.
