Oakland International Airport Upgrade

Salas O’Brien partnered with The Port of Oakland to upgrade the International Airport Arrivals terminal. This major international shipping and transportation hub required the US Customs & Border Protection arriving passenger processing facilities to remain operational during construction. Despite this challenge, our team was able to keep the existing arrivals terminal open during expansion, completing two new building additions, a new baggage carousel, restrooms, and extra space for passenger queuing and processing—all within 24 months.

Our team provided structural designs for the new facilities and a seismic retrofit to the existing structures, per ASCE 41-13 Life Safety performance objectives.
