Utilities Infrastructure Assessment

Salas O’Brien collaborated with Stanford University to evaluate the utilities serving over 250 campus buildings managed by the university’s residential and dining enterprises. The assessment aimed to identify and access the current utility infrastructure to understand the issues, requirements, and conditions associated with the buildings. The university was developing a capital reinvestment plan for the next 25 years, which made evaluating the utility infrastructure crucial.

We recommended life cycle replacement for each utility at its current state, and five-ten-, and twenty-five-year intervals. The surveyed utilities included potable water, fire water lines, sanitary sewer, electrical switchgear, gas, storm drain, steam/chilled water, irrigation, and lake water. The project deliverables included cost estimates for each utility upgrade or replacement, mapping of every utility, and a recommended program for addressing each deficiency.
