Decarbonization Study

Salas O’Brien is partnering with Stanford University to forge a path toward the university’s decarbonization strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In the first phase, we evaluated the energy usage in 233 buildings using natural gas. By inspecting the virtual blueprints and onsite evaluations, our team examined the natural gas emissions, space heating, and kitchen processes to develop a plan for Stanford’s transition to more sustainable energy sources.

Our collaboration for this project is extending beyond the technical aspects. We are working hand-in-hand with Stanford’s dedicated staff to deliver three key outcomes: a buildings matrix, a comprehensive cost analysis outlining replacements and savings, and a customized conversion planning tool. These resources, co-created with Stanford, steer the university toward a more sustainable future and transform its approach to campus conservation.
