Designing new water purification system to enhance medication production
MCPHERSON, KANSAS, USA
Reverse Osmosis Water Generation
Salas O’Brien provided comprehensive design services to replace our client’s outdated chlorinated reverse osmosis system. The existing system utilized failing technology, which led to extensive product recalls and losses. As a solution, we developed a basis of design for a 2-train redundant purified water pretreatment and reverse osmosis system to distribute purified water to existing vapor compression stills, utilizing ozone for purification. Our experts used Monte Carlo analysis throughout the process to determine N+1 requirements for site capacity needs. Being a supplier of vital medications, the facility couldn’t undergo a prolonged shutdown. Instead, our team implemented a phased approach so that production could continue during improvements. Despite being impacted multiple times by significant scope changes, we were also able to reduce energy consumption and create savings in water generation and usage for the site.
