Heat Treatment Skid

Salas O’Brien worked closely with a leading nutritional manufacturer to replace an outdated heat treatment skid at its product development plant. Our team provided a custom system design that can process a wide variety of nutritional and infant formulas at a flow rate of 1.3 gallons per minute. The design can perform various heat-treatment procedures to mimic the processes at the client’s full-scale production plants. We completed a 3D laser scan of the existing facility and created a 3D model to deliver a system that fits perfectly within the space provided. The heat treatment system we developed included a balance tank, High-Temperature Short-Time (HTST) pasteurization, Ultra-High Temperature (UHT) pasteurization, two homogenizers, and final product cooling. To optimize performance, our team completed hydraulic modeling of clean-in-place (CIP) and nutritional processes at various temperatures. We also provided designs for the system’s electrical power, controls, and process utilities, including culinary steam, water, compressed air, and cooling water.
