New Burner System

Salas O’Brien provided electrical and controls design engineering services for a new natural gas burner system for Buzzi Unicem USA that serves both the kiln and calciner. The system includes multi-fuel burners, natural gas valve trains, and dedicated Burner Management Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), helping enable reliable burner operation.

We wired the loose field devices to each Burner Management PLC, completed the automatic transfer switch design for two emergency air fans to facilitate burner cooling under both power-loss and fan-trip scenarios, and hardwired the integration of safety-critical devices in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines. We delivered comprehensive engineering across five phases, from conceptual design through final as-builts, all aligned with the owner’s Division of Responsibilities (DOR) documents and the site requirements to support a coordinated, safe implementation.
