Bold geometric LED lighting design enhances main stage reconfiguration
Toronto, ON, Canada
Meridian Arts Centre
This project created two distinct theatres from the existing program space: the 300-seat black box Greenwin Theatre and the 580-seat Lyric Theatre.
Salas O’Brien provided MEP, telecommunications design, energy modelling consulting, and specialty lighting design, which was critical for accentuating the chevron-shaped fabric panels comprising the theatre’s curved perimeter. Programmable LED lights complement this powerful geometric pattern, allowing for new kinds of creative expression, such as enveloping the entire space in color wash and movement in reaction to the dramaturgy.
The Greenwin Theatre, with its monumental 90-foot fly tower overhead, transforms a traditional black box configuration with the ability to illuminate and give dramatic expression to this ‘fifth wall’ of theatre.
