Innovative design transforming landfill gas into clean energy solutions
GRAYSLAKE, IL, USA
Landfill Renewable Natural Gas Facility
Salas O’Brien led a multi-disciplinary team as Prime Engineer for a groundbreaking renewable natural gas facility at Countryside landfill in Grayslake. The project transformed 3,200 SCFM of raw landfill gas into 1,555 SCFM pipeline-quality natural gas. The facility features two buildings: a process building for gas compression and treatment and an electrical building housing control equipment.
Our team integrated innovative technologies into the design, including temperature swing adsorption for siloxanes and volatile organic compound removal, pressure swing adsorption for CO2 and N2 elimination, and an active scrubber system for H2S removal. Salas O’Brien’s team executed a comprehensive balance of plant work, encompassing architectural, civil, structural, MEP, and control design. The project spanned from initial feasibility studies through detailed design and permitting and wrapped up with support during construction and startup.
