1929 landmark converted into acclaimed boutique hotel
Chicago, IL, USA
The Robey Hotel
Standing at the corner of North and Milwaukee Avenues, this 12-story historic limestone and brick flatiron building was Chicago’s first skyscraper outside the loop.
Salas O’Brien provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design work for this landmark’s conversion into a hotel. In addition to the design work, we provided local Class L Landmark support services for the redevelopment. The Robey offers many amenities, including a café, lounge, private event space, diner, restaurant, basement bar, and rooftop lounge, and includes 69 guestrooms, 24 of which are shared hostel suites.
The design team created a venue that combines a historic exterior with distinctive curated interior space, standing out in Chicago’s growing hotel market.
