Stephenson Engineering joins Salas O’Brien, strategically expanding reach in North America

Salas O’Brien announced today that Toronto-based Stephenson Engineering has joined the company, further adding to Salas O’Brien’s technical expertise and broadening the services available to clients.

With a portfolio including many prominent buildings on the Toronto skyline, the Stephenson team adds significant structural engineering expertise, particularly in high-rise buildings, healthcare, and transportation. Stephenson’s portfolio also includes a specialized building science practice that helps owners assess, maintain, and restore their building investments for the long-term.

This merger is a huge leap forward in our strategy to be local everywhere with global resources. The Stephenson team will dramatically increase our ability to provide structural engineering to clients across North America, and the firm’s building science practice is a perfect complement for our focus on institutional clients who hold their real estate for the long-term.
Darin AndersonChairman and CEO, Salas O’Brien

Stephenson will continue to be managed by its current and future leaders for the long term, while also becoming part of the broader Salas O’Brien team and collaborating to take advantage of growth opportunities.

We’re very drawn to Salas O’Brien’s ambition to be the best engineering, facility planning and commissioning firm in the world. Their approach to mergers, the opportunity to expand our services throughout North America, and our complementary approach to firm culture and projects—all of these and more give us a great deal of optimism for the future we will build together. All of our leaders are excited and have voluntarily become shareholders in our merged firm.

The transaction closed on December 1, 2020, and news of the merger was shared just after the close with the Stephenson and Salas O’Brien teams.

Salas O’Brien continues to grow as part of an ambitious plan to create the most respected engineering firm in the world as measured by our clients and team members.
