Structural design for the world’s first fully digitally integrated building
Salas O’Brien collaborated with WZMH Architects to provide structural design for a groundbreaking digital facility known as the Smart Campus Integration and Testing Hub (SCITHub) at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). This visionary building features a three-story mass timber envelope. It is the world’s first fully digitally enabled structure, integrating all building systems and services.
Comprehensive parking garage rehabilitation for uptown Toronto
Salas O’Brien joined forces with GWL Realty Advisors Inc. to address the deteriorating state of their parking garage, which had seen its structural integrity compromised due to outdated waterproofing systems. The complex in uptown Toronto served three central towers comprising government offices, private commercial spaces, a hotel, and a library.
Innovative structural design for high rises for unique mixed-use development
Salas O’Brien provided structural design for this mixed-use development featuring two residential towers (66 and 70 stories), a 37-story LEED Platinum office tower, a four-level retail podium, and underground parking. Built on reclaimed land, our groundwater control solutions earned the 2018 Ontario Concrete Award for Structural Design Innovation.
