Forensic engineer, Jason Boehm, is presenting at the CLM Construction Conference on A Series of Unfortunate Events: When Bad Things Happen to New Buildings with Mike Castillo, Taylor Davis, and Joe Patten at 10:30 am on September 19th.

When the builders risk policy becomes a commercial property policy and the insured building suffers a $4M loss in the first few hours, where do you start? How do you determine the responsible parties? This well-versed panel of experts will discuss the complex investigation of a multi-million-dollar water loss that was the result of an improper fitting. They will explore the investigation process to determine the cause of the loss (design issue, manufacturer defect, improper installation, or something else), discuss coverage determination, defense of coverage, spoliation of evidence, and the steps to dissect and evaluate a complex property loss. Each step in the claim will be looked at from the perspective of the insurance carrier, coverage counsel, an engineer, and a subrogation attorney, highlighting what is important to each expert throughout the claim and how collaboration was necessary to bring this file to conclusion.

Jason Boehm of Salas O’Brien obtained a BS in Structural Engineering from UCSD. He currently serves as a Forensic Engineer at Haag Engineering Co. He provides engineering consulting and expert witness services on a variety of issues including roof and building envelope performance and damage, structural evaluations, foundation evaluations, slope stability and more. He currently teaches the Haag Certified Inspector (Residential) class as part of the Haag Education program. Prior to joining Haag, Mr. Boehm was a structural design engineer for a large engineering firm and worked primarily in the oil and gas, and mining environments designing foundations, retaining structures, and steel and concrete support systems.
