Centre for Aerospace and Aviation de Havilland Hanger

Salas O’Brien provided design services for the renovation and addition to the existing de Havilland hangar at Downsview Park to create a new Aerospace Department facility for Centennial College. Our team provided mechanical, electrical, lighting, telecommunications, security, audiovisual, and commissioning services.

The existing structure was repurposed for modern aircraft use, with some selective demolition to make room for new construction. We carefully coordinated new services with the existing and new structure to keep most of the space without ceilings, creating an open industrial feel. The facility includes classroom/lab spaces for aviation engineering, hangar space, administration space, meeting rooms, and auxiliary services for student commons/food services/library resources. The design team ensured the project adhered to LEED Gold standards
