Vantage Amenities Building (The Hangar)

Salas O’Brien collaborated with Healthpeak Properties for structural design of a new 40,000- quare-foot amenities building, called “the Hangar,” inspired by airplane hangars. This facility, which honors South San Francisco’s industrial history, features assembly spaces, a bar, restaurants, and a fitness center.

Our team designed the facility using special concentric braced frames (SCBFs) to enhance lateral force resistance in the highly seismic San Francisco Bay Area. The Hangar is part of Phase I of the campus development, which also includes two spec lab buildings that began construction before the design phase of the Hangar. As a result, we collaborated closely with the contractor and steel fabricator in a design-assist capacity from the outset so that Phase I would be completed on schedule.
