Expanding chilled water plant to accommodate steam-to-hot water plant
Nashville, TN
Utility Infrastructure Improvement
Salas O’Brien was selected as engineer of record responsible for major utility infrastructure improvements project on the Peabody campus of Vanderbilt University. The project includes renovating and expanding of the existing chilled water plant serving the campus to increase the plant’s capacity from 3,400 tons to 5,200 tons and upgrade the plant pumping configuration. The expanded plant houses a new 48,000 MBH hot water system.
The project includes a new hot water distribution system that originates from the new plant expansion and serves 18 buildings on the campus. The new hot water distribution system replaces the aging steam infrastructure. Each building on the campus underwent modifications to convert from steam service to hot water service. In addition, the project includes new chilled water, 13.8 kV and telecommunications pathways and infrastructure installed adjacent to the new hot water distribution throughout the campus.
