The Bellwood Quarry Water Reservoir, Tunnel and Pump Station Transformation

Salas O’Brien provided electrical, instrumentation and controls, and construction administration engineering services to transform Atlanta’s historic Bellwood Quarry into a 2.4-billion-gallon emergency water reservoir. Collaborating with the city, we designed and implemented a robust electrical, instrumentation, and control (EI&C) system to manage the reservoir’s pump station operations, ensuring seamless integration with the adjacent Westside Park development.

Our services included power distribution design, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system integration, instrumentation selection, and construction administration. By coordinating closely with civil and mechanical teams, we delivered a reliable system capable of real-time monitoring and energy-efficient operations. The project’s advanced controls reduced long-term operational costs while supporting the city’s sustainability goals, enhancing public safety, and securing a critical water reserve for future generations.
