Substation Modernization
Salas O’Brien provided engineering and procurement services to a large-scale biotech manufacturing facility to modernize their existing substation. Our team designed and implemented a new 69kV ring bus configuration, which supplies three 45MVA transformers and feeds into the new 15kV main-tie-main arc-rated switchgear. The ring bus configuration allows the facility to be served by either utility feed, enabling the system to monitor available voltage and switch power sources to maintain a constant power flow. Our 15kV switchgear design not only addresses the present electrical needs but also delivers flexibility for upcoming expansions and enhancements in power supply. For the plant to remain fully operational during the upgrade, we designed the switchgear and relay control panels in prefabricated control houses commissioned off-site before shipment and final installation. Our engineering and design strategy limited the on- site work required and expedited the process to bring the substation and switchgear into service.
