St. Francis Berkeley Hospital Expansion

Salas O’Brien provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and fire alarm engineering services for the expansion of Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital, a major healthcare growth initiative serving Berkeley County. The project includes a 200,000-square-foot hospital expansion and a new 90,000-square-foot medical office building, adding 50 inpatient beds, 21 emergency department treatment rooms, and advanced spaces for MRI, CT, interventional radiology, a compounding pharmacy, four operating rooms, a mother-baby unit, a dialysis unit, and expanded support departments.

To support this growth, also significant upgrades to the hospital’s central energy plant, including new chillers, cooling towers, a boiler, and expanded hydronic distribution were completed. The project enhanced access to advanced, compassionate healthcare while improving the hospital’s capacity, efficiency, and long-term reliability.
