Science and Innovation Center CFS Design

The 65,000-square-foot Science and Innovation Center elevates STEM offerings and further complements the liberal arts education offered at Regis Jesuit High School. It also features a striking new main entrance for the co-divisional high school campus. Salas O’Brien provided exterior structural cold-formed steel (CFS) framing engineering and drawings for the new facility.

We used creative solutions to design appropriate support for the glazing in the large clerestory and designed CFS eyebrow canopies that cantilever from the jambs to support glazing above and below at horizontal glazing breaks where structural steel was not provided. Our team also designed extensive exterior soffit detailing that accommodates changes in the soffit slope, as well as the at peaks and transitions at the intersections of the slopes. This building is a great example of CFS’ versatility, which enables architectural solutions that are both beautiful and structurally efficient.
