UC San Diego Powell-Focht Bioengineering Laboratory Renovation

Salas O’Brien, in partnership with Lionakis, worked closely together to convert 3,200 square feet of existing office space in the basement of the Powell-Focht Bioengineering Hall into an instructional wet lab in compliance with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) requirements. The project, located within the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering, included a main lab, a dedicated tissue culture room, cold storage, a bioelectronics and innovation lab, and support areas.

By delivering innovative solutions and optimizing the construction schedule, our team addressed the University’s urgent need for additional lab space and enhanced the Bioengineering program’s research capabilities. Our proactive approach minimized disruptions to ongoing research and instruction, demonstrating our commitment to the University’s goal of educational excellence.
