Designing a net-zero learning hub within one of North America’s largest urban parks
TORONTO, ON, CANADA
Rouge National Urban Park Visitor, Learning, and Community Centre
Salas O’Brien is partnering with Parks Canada to provide mechanical, electrical, lighting, IT, telecommunications, energy modeling, and sustainability services. Our services support integrating building systems with Rouge National Urban Park’s long-term performance goals. The new net zero carbon facility will be the park’s primary learning and orientation center, where visitors, students, and residents can gather and learn about the Rouge’s heritage and Parks Canada’s network of protected areas.
The Visitor, Learning, and Community Centre includes flexible indoor and outdoor learning spaces, multipurpose program rooms, exhibit and orientation areas, a retail shop, food service and kitchen facilities, administrative offices, and public amenities. These spaces support year-round programming, educational activities, events, and visitor services in a highly accessible park setting. The project aims for zero-carbon certification and to achieve net zero energy by 2030.
