Peterson Health Amanda and J. David Williams Surgery Center

The new Amanda and J. David Williams Surgery Center now serves as the primary outpatient surgery center for Peterson Health. Salas O’Brien provided structural engineering services for the three-story facility that effectively doubles outpatient surgical capacity in the Kerrville area and
fulfills a larger strategic vision that effectively positions Peterson Health for future growth.

At level two, the building footprint steps back on three sides, creating a lower roof with a green roof terrace next to the main entry. The team faced the challenge of designing a system that properly transfers brace forces from the lower roof into the main building’s core bracing. Additionally, they had to navigate restrictions on column locations, which required transfer
beams, and support the main canopy structure with cantilevered beams from the main building columns.
