Salas O’Brien upgraded a leading paper manufacturer’s outdated paper machine. The client faced increasing safety, reliability, and obsolescence risks on its 4A paper machine, as an old burner management system (BMS) threatened uptime and compliance with facility code requirements. We delivered a phased, safety-driven modernization—upgrading the BMS architecture, controls, and validation while keeping continuous operation. Our integrated electrical, mechanical, process, and safety teams provided transparent engineering, thorough documentation, and hands-on construction support. By aligning Safety Integrity Level-based design, standardized panelization, and disciplined risk assessment, the upgrade reduced risk and created a scalable controls platform that was easy to use. Our design delivered a safer, more reliable production line ready for long-term performance and future expansion.
