North Campus Expansion

Salas O’Brien provided comprehensive engineering design services for the Children’s Hospital North campus expansion and renovation, helping the facility meet growing demand for pediatric healthcare services across Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming. The project transformed the existing outpatient campus into a full-service pediatric hospital, expanding inpatient, emergency, diagnostic, surgical, and outpatient care services, and enhancing the central utility plant and supporting infrastructure.

Delivered under an Integrated Project Delivery approach, the project was carefully phased to keep hospital services fully operational throughout construction. Innovative solutions, including wireless lighting controls, redundant utility feeds, and advanced standby power systems, enhanced reliability, operational flexibility, and long-term value. This new facility now delivers energy performance levels that exceed Colorado’s future hospital building efficiency standards. In 2024, the project received the Design Excellence Award from the Design-Build Institute of America.
