Nexus on Grand

Salas O’Brien provided structural engineering and design services for Healthpeak Properties’ new, five-story, state-of-the-art life sciences facility at 233 East Grand Ave. The project scope includes office space, R&D laboratories, a fitness center, a café, and collaborative space. The striking structure stands out amongst East Grand’s renowned life science campuses as the tallest building on the avenue.

The structural system includes a mat slab foundation with micropile tie-downs, isolated spread footings, steel columns, and beams with concrete fill over metal deck diaphragms. The lateral system utilizes buckling-restrained braced frames (BRBF) arranged in central cores for maximum natural light and unrestricted views to maintain the architectural vision.
