Powering secure satellite production for critical mission

Salas O’Brien provided electrical engineering design for the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Gateway Center at the Waterton Canyon campus, marking a significant leap in satellite production capabilities. This design-build facility focuses on the manufacturing and testing of satellites. Within its expansive layout, 175,000 square feet of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) support secure operations for national security missions. The center features a high-bay Class 100k cleanroom, enabling simultaneous construction and testing of large and small satellites. It also houses a large thermal-vacuum chamber that simulates the harsh conditions of space, enabling rigorous satellite testing before launch.
Complementing these facilities is a sizable anechoic chamber for safely testing satellite antennas and communication systems, as well as a large-volume airlock that facilitates the departure of completed spacecraft in a clean environment. The project includes redundant power systems, uninterruptible power supplies, generators, and a central utility plant, all achieved through meticulous coordination of highly technical equipment.
