Sustainable engineering for Ottawa’s largest healthcare system
OTTAWA, ON, CANADA
New Campus Development
Salas O’Brien is providing structural engineering and mechanical design services for Ottawa’s largest healthcare infrastructure project. This new campus will be one of Canada’s largest academic health science centers, offering specialized services, education, and research. The hospital will include 641 inpatient beds, with nearly 100 designated as critical care beds, and one of Eastern Ontario’s most advanced trauma centres. A one-patient, one-bedroom, one-bathroom model will help prevent and control infections while promoting healing through a sustainable, low carbon design. The design combines leading sustainability models, with resilient systems designed to address climate change, natural disasters, and future pandemics—while maintaining flexibility for evolving clinical needs and potential vertical expansion.
