New ATLAS Laser Facility

Salas O’Brien is providing comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, sustainability, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) engineering for Colorado State University’s new Advanced Technology Lasers for Applications and Science (ATLAS) facility. The facility will house a multi-petawatt laser with a laser bay, target area, and control room for three-laser operation.

Our design features a central cooling plant, custom air handling units, dual electrical service, and energy-efficient LED lighting to support research. Our team uses CFD to validate the cleanroom environmental controls for maintaining ISO Class 7 and 6 conditions, which are crucial for laser fusion experimentation and three-laser operations. Our tailored and integrated security and safety systems, developed for advanced research, will expedite construction while exceeding client expectations in performance, energy savings, and future-ready technology adoption.
