Nature-Based Solutions

To address the US Navy’s need to minimize, adapt to, and recover from the impacts of natural hazards, Salas O’Brien is working with three Navy installations in California to develop a programmatic framework for implementing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) projects that protect mission-critical infrastructure and increase operational resilience.

Delivered through an Other Transaction Authority (OTA) contract, the framework gives environmental decision-makers the data and resources to integrate, coordinate, prioritize, and execute NbS projects. Partnering with leadership from environmental, public works, and range operations departments, we identify the most resilient methods to integrate nature-based and hybrid green-gray features (natural and conventional structural). We also collaborate with stakeholders outside the installations and leverage legislative authorities to support project implementation through alternative financing and public-public partnerships.
