Natural Gas Burner System

Salas O’Brien designed the electrical and controls systems for a new natural gas burner system serving both the kiln and calciner. The system includes multi-fuel burners and natural gas valve trains, and each requires a dedicated burner management Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). We wired loose-field devices to each burner management PLC, coordinated automatic transfer switches for two emergency air fans to provide continuous burner cooling on both generator and plant power, and hardwired safety-critical devices in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines.

Our team completed raceway design from the kiln burner skid management system cabinet to the electrical room, raceway routing between two existing electrical rooms, and a generator load analysis to confirm adequate backup capacity for the new loads. All engineering was delivered in five phases, from conceptual design through final as-builts, in accordance with the owner’s documents and the site requirements.
