Expanding access to community- based elder care with nature- focused design
BOWMANVILLE, ON, CANADA
Long Term Care Home Development
Glen Hill Gardens is a new 224-bed long-term care facility designed to support aging in place while responding to increasing demand for local elder care. Operated by Durham Christian Homes Society Inc., the 165,000-square-foot building is carefully situated on a wooded 3.25-acre site, blending a sense of privacy with thoughtful access to the outdoors.
Salas O’Brien provided mechanical, electrical, lighting, IT, AV, security, energy modeling, and commissioning consulting services for this new facility, which includes two interconnected volumes: a one-storey pavilion housing shared amenity spaces—such as the chapel, multipurpose rooms, and central kitchen—and a multi-storey residential block comprising seven Resident Home Areas. Each floor features landscaped courtyards that provide natural light and outdoor views to resident bedrooms and dining areas, contributing to resident well-being.
