International Airport Expansion

Salas O’Brien partnered with Myrtle Beach International Airport to provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design for a Terminal A expansion that strengthened the airport’s capacity, improved the traveler experience, and supported future growth. The addition included six hold rooms, passenger boarding bridges, restrooms, concessions, and shell space, creating space to better serve travelers and future demand. Because existing mechanical and electrical systems lacked capacity, our team designed an air-cooled chiller, electric heating, and a new 3,000-amp, 480-volt electrical service to support the expansion and maintain reliable operations. We also evaluated and extended plumbing, fire protection, grounding, lightning protection, and fire alarm systems. Careful coordination integrated new infrastructure with active terminal and life-safety systems, helping to keep airport operations uninterrupted throughout construction.
