Indiana Orthopedic Institute

Salas O’Brien provided structural engineering for the flagship facility of the Indiana Orthopedic Institute (IOI) / Indiana Joint Replacement Institute (IRJI) dedicated to advanced orthopedic care and specializing in hip and knee replacement. This facility is also the first tenant at Noblesville’s Innovation Mile, an economic development corridor for life-science companies.

The new orthopedic ambulatory surgical center (ASC) is two-story steel frame building with a second level of concrete slab on a composite metal deck. We designed the columns to be supported by spread footings over improved subgrade. We braced the building with chevron steel bracing located strategically around stair tower walls. The entry canopy features HSS columns and low-profile HSS beams. The roof structure supports three large air handling units screened by a prefabricated panel roof screen.
