Hospital Combined Heat and Power Design

Salas O’Brien partnered with Corewell Health to provide comprehensive engineering services for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems at Butterworth Hospital. Our team designed a solution featuring two 2.5 MW natural gas generators and exhaust heat recovery units, providing electricity and thermal energy. The new system significantly enhances the hospital’s utility reliability, fuel efficiency, and cost-effectiveness by simultaneously generating power and usable heat.

The CHP installation offers a modern replacement for aging boiler systems while bolstering
backup power resilience for critical operations. Our team provided a seamless integration, positioning Butterworth Hospital at the forefront of sustainable and efficient healthcare infrastructure.
