Harris Health System Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital

Harris Health System’s Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital Campus is going through significant enhancements that include a new Level 1 Trauma Center and a new Central Utility Plant capable of operating independently for natural disasters. The new tower will house Emergency Rooms, Imaging Rooms, Cardio Diagnostics, Operation Rooms, Birthing Center, Medical Surgery Units, associated patient care rooms, and a rooftop helipad.

Salas O’Brien conducted comprehensive environmental studies to assess potential disturbances in patient areas caused by existing trains and a major highway, while also factoring in the new helipad. In addition to providing input on the building shell, our scope included interior room acoustics, sound isolation, and noise and vibration control.

Speech privacy is a critical component of patient confidentiality; therefore, we also recommended a sound masking system.
