Duke Energy Combined Heat and Power Facility

Salas O’Brien delivered comprehensive design services for a cutting-edge 15.5 MW Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system, showcasing our mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and instrumentation & controls engineering design expertise. The project features a state-of-the-art combustion turbine generator and a heat recovery steam generator capable of producing 150,000 lb/hr of superheated steam.

Our team designed a versatile system with a diverter damper and bypass stack, allowing independent power generation when needed. The CHP facility includes advanced support infrastructure, such as a fuel compression system, condensate storage, and integration with existing auxiliary systems.

This innovative project, housed in a purpose-built structure with essential operational spaces, earned the prestigious 2022 CHP Project of the Year award from the CHP Alliance, underscoring our commitment to excellence in energy-efficient solutions.
