Energy-efficient design for a LEED Gold hospital in B.C.
DAWSON CREEK, BC, CANADA
Dawson Creek Hospital
The Dawson Creek and District Hospital redevelopment is setting a new standard for energy-efficient healthcare in British Columbia. Designed to LEED Gold, this highly sustainable hospital will feature an Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of 126 kBtu/ft²/year, representing a 56% reduction against the ASHRAE 90.1-2010 benchmark.
Salas O’Brien is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, security, ICAT design, sustainability, and energy consulting for this Design-Build project. Our team has engineered high-performance systems that maximize efficiency, reduce operational carbon, and ensure long-term energy savings. The hospital will house 70 acute beds, an expanded mental health unit with 18 inpatient suites, and comprehensive healthcare services, including surgical services, chemotherapy, ambulatory care, radiology, pharmacy, and diagnostic imaging. Perinatal care will feature labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum rooms, and a nursery to support new parents.
