Energy-efficient cooling strategy reduces operational costs significantly
BINGHAMTON, NY, USA
Data Center Renovation
The State University Construction Fund selected Salas O’Brien as the lead professional to provide comprehensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services to modernize a mission critical campus data center for Binghamton University. The team developed a meticulous construction phasing plan that maintains cooling, UPS/emergency power, and fire protection throughout demolition and asbestos abatement, protecting continuous campus operations. Our upgraded design features a Novec 1230 clean agent fire protection system, hot aisle/cold aisle containment, and an N+1 in-row cooling system with free cooling capability, all designed to reduce energy consumption.
Dual N+1 UPS units, expandable to 200 kVA, and infrastructure planned for a future generator upgrade increased resilience and uptime. Our integrated approach provided SUCF with a flexible and efficient data center, ready for future growth and evolving technology needs.
