Salas O’Brien provided sustainability consulting for Perkins Eastman’s new studio in Chicago’s famed Rookery building. The facility is a testament to Perkins Eastman’s commitment to fostering a health-conscious work environment, embodying the philosophy of “Human by Design.”

At the heart of the design is integrating WELL principles, aimed at enhancing employee well-being, including various wellness-focused amenities such as a dedicated wellness room, a mothers’ room, and options for nutritious food choices. Thoughtfully designed sit-stand desks promote movement throughout the workday, while balance boards, ergonomic task chairs, and ample task lighting contribute to an overall healthy workspace.

Completed in January 2019, this innovative project was awarded WELL v2 Platinum certification in November 2020, marking a significant milestone as the first project in Illinois, the fourth in the United States, and the twenty-fifth in the world to achieve this prestigious level under the WELL v2 pilot.
