CFS design successfully faces the challenges of complex system demands
SAN ANTONIO, TX, USA
Coopers Row North
Situated along the banks of the San Antonio River, Coopers Row North is a six-story mixed-use building and the second phase of the Cooper’s Row Residences project in the historic Pearl District. Salas O’Brien provided structural design as SEOR for the superstructure above the Level 2 podium slab and for the non-bearing cold-formed steel (CFS) wall and soffit framing. Our team designed the above-podium structure using a CFS bearing wall gravity system and a mixed lateral system of CMU cores and strap-braced CFS walls, added later to supplement lateral support and requiring stiffness compatibility detailing. Our design also dealt with gravity design challenges, including wide exterior openings, the system’s integration with the facade’s brick coursing and bump-outs at the piers between the openings, and coordination for cantilevered patio support.
