Cement Plant Expansion

Salas O’Brien provided detailed engineering and design for the Illinois Cement Company plant expansion to support the production of Portland Limestone Cement (PLC). We designed the limestone addition for two finish mills and associated support systems for the vertical roller mill
(VRM). We also assisted in the installation and integration of the VRM.

In addition, our team designed a new feed system, complete with drag chains and belt conveyors, feed bins, and bucket elevators, to withdraw and transport lime and gypsum materials to the VRM. Our designs also included a new baghouse to filter particulate matter from exhaust gases, a hot-gas generator system to fuel the drying and calcination processes, and a cement cooler that enables product quality control and heat recovery. Additionally, we provided engineering and design for supporting utilities, including electrical, natural gas, pneumatic transport, airslide blower air, and cooling water systems. Our facility upgrade design expanded the facility’s production capabilities and increased production throughput.
