All Holy Spirit Greek Orthodox Church

Nearly two decades in the making, with the congregation occupying rented spaces since its formation in 2006, the All Holy Spirit Greek Orthodox Church has a new, beautiful, permanent home. Salas O’Brien provided structural engineering design for this new church and campus near Omaha, Nebraska.  The center the church contains the Nave space. We designed eight-sided moment frames and a series of tension and compression rings to create this sacred worship space with 50-foot clear spans between columns and a 46-foot high ceiling at the dome.

The 20,000-pound dome, significant in Orthodox architecture, is the centerpiece of the worship experience. The “raising of the Dome” where the prefabricated dome is hoisted into place, took months of meticulous planning and coordination between the design and construction teams. It marked a crucial step in the construction process and the significance of the church’s progress in achieving its long-held vision.
