The Pond House at Ten Oaks Farm

Holly & Smith Architects

The Pond House at Ten Oaks Farm is a one-of-a-kind, zero-energy retreat that showcases and utilizes its surrounding natural resources. The three-story structure sits at the edge of a pond located on 15.5 acres of land in Hammond, Louisiana. With solar panels supplying power to the house and a sloping rooftop channeling rainwater into the adjacent pond, the building’s design maximizes energy efficiency—at times producing more energy than it consumes. The streamlined architecture of the house allows for panoramic views from the living room, kitchen, and dining room, and the outdoor deck puts occupants in touch with the surrounding landscape. A minimalistic, luxury interior provides for exceptional comfort while maintaining maximum efficiency.

Salas O’Brien provided the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering for this project. The finished product is a unique and rewarding retreat destination, earning it the 2015 Gold Award from AIA Baton Rouge.
